The Ashland County Dog Shelter takes in stray dogs or dogs brought in by the dog warden.

The dogs are held for a set time before being claimed by the owner or vaccinated and put up for adoption.

The dog warden and staff are employed by the county commissioners and tasked with enforcing Ohio Revised Code 955, which does not include animals other than dogs.

Please note: The Humane Society of Ashland County is a separate non-profit organization that handles animal neglect and abuse cases.
Visit Ashland Co. Humane Society or call 419.281.4722 to learn more.

Adoption
Please call to discuss your interests and dogs currently available so that we can schedule a time for you to have a meet-and-greet with possible matches.

Adoption fee is $100 and includes current dog license, first set of shots (5 ways), Bordetella (kennel cough) shot, heartworm test, microchip, collar and leash.

Each dog is spayed or neutered prior to adoption.

Licensing is required for all county dogs; regardless if they're an indoor or outdoor pet.
